Fake Antivirus Programs Part 5 – Using Spybot S&D
Posted Under: Free Program, PC Security, Protection
Spybot Search & Destroy is a free program which detects and removes spyware which is not covered by antivirus programs. This includes many of the new rogue antivirus programs which install silently in the background
The online update feature ensures that Spybot always has the most current and complete listings of adware, dialers, and other unwanted system residents, but you must remember to carry this out manually. Version 1.6 features improved speed for on-demand scans, support for a dozen different browsers, and easier on-access use.
If you find new toolbars added to Internet Explorer that you didn’t install, your browser crashes, or if your home page has changed without your knowledge, then you probably have spyware. Frequently you don’t see anything but this does not mean that you are not infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour which creates a profile of you which is then sold to advertising companies.
By using the ‘Immunize’ feature these sites are redirected to your local host (127.0.0.1) so you never connect to them and no information can be collected.
