AdAware Anniversary Edition Free
Lavasoft AdAware 2009 click here - Added November 2009
AdAware Anniversary Edition from Lavasoft has a few changes to its interface. I downloaded and installed this program as I do with many others to test them out.
Installation was great, after the initial install users have to reboot to enable the installation of Ad-Watch Live, which I did and was greeted with the Blue Screen of Death! Great start.
With close to 10 years of malware experience users would expect something better. AdAware Anniversary Edition apparently does offer improved performance and efficiency, along with comprehensive malware protection. With real-time monitoring, threat alerts, and automatic updates, Lavasoft assure users that they are protected.
The detection engine has been overhauled to improve detection rates and scan times as well as rootkit detection. However, after the BSOD I rebooted and then had a popup balloon in the taskbar asking me to reboot to finalize the installation of Ad-Watch Live. After 3 rebooots I gave up on that one.
On opening the user interface it was using 35% -- 40%+ CPU, and that was in its idle state which I consider to be excessively high as the program was not scanning. During a Quick Scan CPU usage was 5% -- 21%.
Ad-Watch Live offers Processes protection but the Registry and Network protection is available only in the Pro versions, as is Spyware heuristics, Anti-Virus protection, Process Watch, AutoStart Manager, Hosts File Editor and Scheduler.
Threatwork open a small popup window where users can drag and drop suspicious files.
I was not impressed with this Anniversary Edition at all and will stick with Malwarebytes Antimalware and Superantispyware, although both require manual updating and scanning, but use far less resources.
Download AdAware Anniversary Edition here - if you really want it. I cannot recommend this at all.
System Requirements for AdAware Anniversary Edition:
100 MB free Disk space (recommended)
Windows Vista (32 and 64-bit), Windows XP (32-bit), Windows 2000 Pro
I have appended here a communication I received from a PAYING Ad-Aware2008 user, who is less than impressed with the quality of service received. It was another instance in which I recommended the use of other programs that cost nothing and do more.

Quote: ‘Lavasoft-AdAware (Ad-UnAware) has no customer service tech support what so ever!!!!…As Im sure you know better than me….lol….I have paid for their product for several years without a problem. NOW that I have a Trojan.TDSServ that has hijacked my computer AND crippled AdAware 2008 Plus they do not respond to my dozens of emails and comments….see below….By the way PC Tools and AVG responded very quickly to my requests….Tell your viewers…DO NOT PURCHASE AD-AWARE …or any LAVASOFT products…Thanks…

Since your LAVASOFT service and tech support….(is that an oxymoron, like military intelligence?)) departments have not responded to my several emails asking for assistance with the Trojan.TDSServ virus….I am doing you and your 200 millions happy (?) customers a big favor by making myself available to assist you with what I have learned from AVG and PC Tools this week. (oh yeah….they actually HAVE a real customer service and technical support departments)See below and lets talk a contract….as the holidays are near!!!!
Hi There!!!!…I am applying for a senior level management position in your customer service and technical support offices. It has become increasingly obvious that you have no customer service or tech support and I feel from what I have learned from AVG and PC Tools this week regarding the Trojan.TDSServ virus that has rendered Ad-Aware 2008 Plus useless, that I could be of great value to your 200 million happy customers.
Please contact me as soon as possible so we can all get to work.
Seasons Best…..
DO NOT USE ADAWARE OR LAVASOFT PRODUCTS THEY HAVE NO TECH SUPPORT’
