RegCure vs CCleaner and OneCare
RegCure from Paretologic is being pushed by thousands of affiliates, but it will also find hundreds of entries in your Registry and removing them could also stop many applications from working.
Due to complaints from Paretologic, malwareurl.com has been forced to remove their shoddy products from the list of rogue / malicious applications.
Reference to this has been made on the hpHosts blog and S!R! URZ blog and Paretologic is also listed in the hpHosts File
The program is free to download, as are other Paretologic applications, but functionality is limited to a SCAN ONLY.
To compare with other Registry Cleaners I also ran CCleaner, which has a built-in Registry Cleaner and Windows Live OneCare (requires Internet Explorer)
The results were more or less what I expected, with CCleaner finding absolutely nothing, OneCare finding just a few minor problems and RegCure finding 965 problems!
It's NOT a rogue program in the sense that rogues download and install malware, but it is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) as it could stop your computer from functioning and certainly stop many programs from working.
Consider this - you can purchase RegCure for $39.97 and they will throw in other applications with a total value of just under $200 USD for free.
Many affiliates who list these products also list them alongside known malicious programs which will cause even more serious damage.
Simple advice - Keep Away from these products, they really are CRAP!
