Auslogics Disk Defrag is a free software program for home users which has an installer version or a fully portable version, great for using on several machines without installing.

Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and even to system failure. Consider your drive as a filing cabinet, you take items from the top drawer and put them back anywhere convenient. Over time, it becomes harder to find them as they were not put back in the right order.

So, just like a filing cabinet, your disk becomes fragmented and spends longer looking for files. Defrag and optimizing the disk speeds up the process by moving the files to where they should be.

Auslogics Disk Defrag is designed for fast optimization of today's modern hard disks. Now you can increase the performance of your expensive hardware investments and it won't cost you anything.

With an easy to use interface, users can select a disk, or multiple disks to Analyze, Defrag or Defrag & Optimize. The program automatically selects all drives attached and users only have to untick any they do not want to defrag.

Under the Action tab, users can select Analyze Selected, Defrag Selected, Defrag & Optimize, Defrag a file or Defrag a folder. Very useful if you do not want to carry out a full defrag.

Under the Settings tab there is a choice of two languages - English or Russian and further options to Minimize on close, Start automatically on boot, integrate the program into Windows Explorer context menus and a selection of color schemes.

Auslogics Disk Defrag can also be scheduled to run on a daily, weekly or monthly basis at a preset time. It can also be preset to auto-defrag, but a word of caution - do NOT defrag too often as it increases wear on your disks.

For optimum results, it is better to run the program with all browsers closed and no programs running and using the option to 'Shut down after defragmentation'.
