I could like this FW if it didn't mess about so much with my system.
My favorite is Comodo, and has been so for some time. But I really don't like the coming V4 wich is in beta right now. It has a sandbox attached to Defense+ and I neither like nor understand the idea behind it.
The problem is that if you disable D+ you take away most leak protection.
So, I'm considering the idea of choosing another FW. But the only other free one that gives full functionality is PCtools. OA free and Outpost free are limited.
As I said at the begining PCtools can´t install on my machine. It simply screws everything up, but... I'm doing a Windows reinstallation soon (for other reasons); do you think that that would clean up whatever conflicts there are know?

Regards to you cotojo, and keep up the good work.

Jose - It is a good firewall but if there are remnants from others in the registry then it will crash and blue screen, it doesn't handle the leftover traces very well.
Comodo 4 I'm waiting for but I didn't like the Defense+ on the current version, so on my main machine I have Online Armor, which gives pretty good protection as well as HIPS. Used with a good AV and antimalware and a few other small apps good security can be achieved.
If you are doing a clean reinstall of Windows it will clear a lot of junk that gets left behind when installing and uninstalling programs, so the registry will be clean and PC Tools should install easily :)
All the best my friend

After a clean OS install I tried PCtools FW again and... the same bloody thing. Soon the whole system freezes and I have to unplug the power cable.
Red light from now on to PCtools, all products included.
Online Armor has a very interesting particularity as well: Windows Vista doesn't recognise the digital signature. After googling it I found other users with the same problem, in both Vista and Windows 7.
An attempt (prior to the reinstall) with Outpost free produced very good results. I hope you review it soon.

From Portugal to the UK, my regards to you Colin.
Jose.

P.S. Comodo installs on whatever conditions, even in very infected systems. It has its annoyances but... what a piece of software! And the best forums by far.

Jose - Both PC Tools and Online Armor appear to have a glitch with some machine configurations, this is something that has been ongoing for some time and it really should be sorted and it is more than a problem with the digital signature. This has been brought up several times and still has not been rectified.
I have installed, PC Tools, Online Armor, Comodo, Zone Alarm (not recommended) on my machines individually without problem, but on my daughters I could only install Comodo LOL
Comodo is good firewall and I will be covering the latest version and Outpost in the near future :)
My best wishes to you
Regards
Colin
