About
The idea of Free PC Security is to bring relevant information to all users, regardless of their level of experience and assist them in keeping their computers safe.
I started with a free Wordpress blog on March 29, 2007 and in January 2009 decided to move from Wordpress and host the site on its own domain. In January 2010 I had problems with my host who was not too pleased at the bandwidth or CPU usage that this site was using and subsequently, without warning, suspended my account in early January 2010.
Although I had regular backups and the host also sent me a complete backup, they were corrupt, so I have had to start from scratch on a new host and have completely rebuilt the site with all articles from the past 3 years.
As well as listing rogue programs and sites that are considered to be dangerous because of their malicious content, I also test beta programs, download malware, and make video tutorials to accompany many of the articles as a visual guide which can make it easier for others to learn.
This is something that I do for fun, and to pass the time. This is not a profit making site and carries no advertising or hidden affiliate links, with the exception of Sandboxie, for which I am an affiliate and it is one program that I would highly recommend. So the site is reliant purely on donations to assist with the running costs.
I do NOT deal with paid programs, many have a 'pro' or 'upgraded' version, but I concentrate on the free version, and it has to do what it claims to do, as well as being safe and easy to use and available at no cost to home users.
There are other programs that I also recommend, such as WinPatrol, but the most important aspect is that the user is comfortable using the programs and it is what works for them. Bearing that in mind, I cover a variety of programs that do the same job, firewalls, antivirus, antimalware and so on.
All of these I will have used myself, and in many cases still do, on different machines that I have as each is setup differently.
There is no 'one size fits all' and I keep this in mind when advising others, what works for me does not mean that it will work for others as each computer is configured differently, so it is very much a case of trying programs and see how you get on with them.
I am an individual, not part of a company and not affiliated with companies, the articles are based on my own research and my own thoughts. Some will disagree with what I write, but I try to be fair and unbiased and approach each program with an open mind.
